When we talk about remote houses, we immediately tend to think of localities very far from any urban center. But though the name is obviously related to distance, it also refers to a desire to escape from the frenetic, rootless and chaotic experience of living in the city. A remote house is more of a concept than an indication of distance. This volume analyzes in detail a selection of the most interesting contemporary houses built in remote spots. Houses in the forest, in the jungle, a few kilometers from the Arctic or Antarctic, in nature reserves, cliffs, beaches or prairies. A trip around the world in which each project is a case study in which architecture ingeniously solves the problems posed by the different features of a given environment. A key tool at a time when we are acquiring a new awareness of our relationship with our environment and when technology permits us to live in distant spots.
