This is a book that is not only very attractive in form (combining images of rustic scenes of old paper mills with pictures from the most up to date facilities and a number of photos of different types of paper of great beauty) but is also innovative in conception, bringing together both theory and practice.
One of the most important features of this book is the chapter devoted to paper fibers. In addition it offers historic information on paper, its characteristics and qualities, materials, tools and technical aspects.
Three paper samples are included, which give the book an important, highly personalized quality, since they make it possible for the reader to directly experiment with an analysis of the fibers.
With respect to the practical part of the book, we can point to the step by step exercises in the last chapter, all of them highly creative, and also to the suggestions included in the other chapters, such as building a home press, making a sheet of paper or decorative paper with materials added, among others.
Another novel aspect is the manufacture of paper from recycled jeans, which deserves to stand out both for its ecological value and because this is the traditional method of western paper manufacture - recycling rags.
